Four men with a passion for a cappella harmony have joined together to form an exceptional quartet, “4.0” (Four-Point-Oh). 4.0 combines the classically trained voices of brothers Gavin and Tyson Jensen, on lead and bass, with the veteran barbershop experience of Ira Allen on baritone and Ted Chamberlain on tenor, resulting in a vibrant, exciting sound. Gavin Jensen is a classically trained singer, graduating from Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in Computer Science.  He has sung in numerous acclaimed choral groups, including Choral Arts Northwest, The Tudor Choir, and Illumni Men’s Chorale.  He has also sung for Pacific Northwest Ballet.  Gavin is a software engineer at Microsoft Studios and lives in Renton, WA, with his wife, Holly, and their two young boys. Tyson Jensen is trained in opera as a lyric baritone and is also trained as a classical alto saxophonist.  He has performed with a variety of notable groups, including the Spokane and Tri- Cities Opera Companies, Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, Whitworth Choir, and Billings Symphony.  He is currently a member of Illumni as well as 4.0.  Tyson makes his living as an independent electronics consultant and lives in Puyallup, WA with his girlfriend Bethany. Ira Allen has been singing barbershop harmony since 1983 and is currently a member of the Northwest Sound Chorus.  He has sung most recently with Sincerely Yours and, before that, Flashpoint, Evergreen District quartet champion (2001) and International competitor.  Ira is a pathologist at Valley Medical Center in Renton, WA.  He lives in Bellevue, WA, with his wife, Elizabeth, and one of their two children. Ted Chamberlain is both a classically trained singer, with a vocal performance degree and a degree in Music Education - and a seasoned barbershopper, who sang most recently with Ira in Sincerely Yours.  He is now a three-time Evergreen District quartet champion (Vocal Attraction in 1989 and Vocal Magic in 2005 and of course 4.0 in 2015) and has competed multiple times on the International stage as Baritone, Bass and Tenor.  Ted has also directed several choruses, including his current directorship of the Seattle SeaChordsmen.  Ted is a National Board Certified Choir and Orchestra teacher who now runs a full-time private vocal instruction (and barbershop coaching) studio out of his home.  He resides in Puyallup, WA, with his wife, Michele.

4.0’s Journey

4.0 formed in August 2011, after Gavin and Ted met while singing in Seattle’s Illumni Men’s Chorale.  Gavin brought Tyson on board not long after the quartet formed, and Ira, Ted’s good friend and former quartet mate, joined the group in May, 2012.  4.0 went on to a 4th place finish, and were named Novice Quartet Champions, at the Evergreen District contest in the fall of 2012.  The quartet competed at the International Barbershop Quartet Competitions in July of 2013 and 2015 (Toronto and Pittsburgh, respectively). In October, 2015, 4.0 went on to win the Evergreen District Quartet Contest. In February, 2016, 4.0 was the featured quartet on the Harmony At Sea cruise to the Bahamas, and they performed at Disney World as part of one of Cindy Hansen’s cruise adventures. 4.0 served as section leaders and demo quartet for workshops aboard the cruise. They have recently earned the points needed to once again represent the Evergreen District at the International Quartet Competition in July 2016 - In Nashville.
